About Me

My Journey

Originally, I didn't plan on attending college; I had landed a job working the fair circuit in the U.S. right out of high school. However, when it become clear that I couldn't do that for the rest of my life, I thought back to my English teacher in high school, who once pointed out to me that her class was the only time she ever saw me engaged in anything. She told me that I would make a good teacher, and I trusted her. I enrolled in BYU-I, and as soon as I took my first class, I knew she was right. I was called to be a teacher, and I will never look back.

Values

Background

My values can be summed up in two words: family centered. I know that I in no way replace the parents of my students, and I have no desire to. Parents trust me to teach their children how to become excellent readers and writers, which I do gladly. I understand that a parent has a right to know what their children are learning and a right to provide their input. I have a monthly newsletter that I send to all of my parents via email so they are included in their children's education.

My dad was in the Air Force my whole life, meaning I moved around every few years. My experience in a variety of cultures, and even countries, allows me to bring a unique perspective into the classroom. I value a range and depth of knowledge and I focus on helping my students value it as well. And, due to my dad's work, my siblings and I were always taught, "Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do." I allow that teaching to saturate every aspect of my life and my teaching.
